SECRET CHURCH 10 – Uganda, Africa – Part 3

Posted: 01 Aug 2011 05:25 AM PDT

The following post is the third in a series by Joy Breedlove, a missionary serving in Uganda, Africa.

Recently, I had the opportunity to sit and discuss Secret Church 10 with Pastor Moses Barasa who is the pastor I serve with here in East Africa.  He and his wife Rose started a church many years ago under a mango tree here in Uganda. Pastor Moses now over see's more than 200 church plants throughout Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and The Congo that have grown out of that first little church.

The following are his thoughts after participating in Secret Church for the first time:

“As God has grown the ministry here into so many churches now, it is challenging to teach and equip sufficiently the men of God needed to pastor our new church plants. The average bush pastor has no bible, no biblical training and can only preach what they have heard other preachers preach. Sadly, they are often exposed to false doctrines and because they are not grounded in the Word, they cannot recognize the teachings as such.

To attended a bible college or seminary here for just one semester would cost $600; more money than most pastors live on in a year. For a pastor to use funds for training when his flock doesn't have enough food to eat and are meeting under a tree or in a building made of mud would be hard. Attending Secret Church was encouraging in that we now have free access to material and teachings of sound doctrine that will train our pastors. These teachings will help our pastors be grounded in the Word and be better Shepherds of the flocks they have been given.

Pastor Platt's teaching on salvation was very important to us. Explaining true salvation is one of our biggest challenges here and Pastor Platt gave to us sound doctrine to teach to others. I have now received a copy of the printed material and will begin immediately teaching it as I travel throughout these countries where new church plants have begun.

What challenged me most during Secret Church was learning that there are those outside of Africa who are being persecuted. I did not know of such things until we learned about India. Hearing about the persecution in India really made me feel sad in my heart. For me I also thought of my Christian brothers and sisters in Sudan and Somalia. They all need our prayers.”
