Secret Church Uganda, Africa – Part 4

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 12:30 PM PDT

The following post is the fourth in a series by Joy Breedlove, a missionary serving in Uganda, Africa.

Here in Uganda a new journey has begun!  In the past few weeks we have completed both the Old Testament Survey as well as New Testament Survey Secret Church Sessions.

Although these sessions were produced in 2006 and 2007, they are still relevant today in 2011. These bible studies will be relevant until the end of time as we know it now, yet, the persecuted church areas these two studies focused on; Africa and Asia are areas that still today need as much prayer as they did years ago.

When Pastor Platt prepared and taught the Old Testament Survey and focused on the persecuted church throughout the continent of Africa, he had no way of knowing how far that study would go. He did not know that 5 years later a missionary would be introducing this study and prayer guide to a group of Pastors in Africa!

Its amazing to see what God is doing. Before I became a missionary I was a participant in Birmingham at the Secret Church studies. Now I am a recipient with those the studies were created for! When you participate in a Secret Church study you learn from the beginning the purpose for the study, yet very few actually see the end results once those studies make it to other countries they were created for.

As we read through the prayer guide for the persecuted church in Africa, we discovered that there are 12 restricted nations – nations openly hostile to Christians and the gospel. The pastors in this class made a decision to divide up these nations among themselves as well as the other African nations and take them back to their bush churches where they would begin praying daily for their persecuted brothers and sisters.

These pastors had never been given any information such as they received through this prayer guide for their persecuted brothers and sisters here in Africa. Many of them remember when Uganda was also a restricted nation. During our time together they shared horrific stories of events they could remember. Listening to those stories made all of us fall to our knees with thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father for the freedom Uganda now has. Yet, at the same time we also sought help from Him as our hearts were broken for these other nations still under persecution.

We know God is preparing us to GO out beyond our villages and borders of Uganda. We are studying diligently the study guides from these Secret Church sessions in preparation of teaching them to others. Next week the pastors and I will be making our first trip to teach a Secret Church session. We will be going into the interior bush where no bible training has been before.

God has shown us that this is just the beginning of what He has planned for us to do. We believe in the months to come, we are going to see God open doors for some of these pastors to go into these restricted nations where missionaries like myself cannot go.

Please pray for us here in Uganda as God makes us His vessels to reach others.
