Pray for the Persecuted

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 10:38 AM PDT

Each week, we will post some specific ways that we can be praying together for our brothers and sisters around the world who are actively sharing in Christ's suffering through persecution.  Take some time to lift the believers in each of these regions before our Father in heaven.  At the same time, pray for those enacting the persecution to be kindly drawn to repentance and to experience new life through faith in Jesus.

IN SYRIA

Pray for believers to have wisdom, courage, strength, endurance, and comfort in this tumultuous time. Amid the fighting, many Christians are seeking refuge outside the country’s borders. For most, this is not possible due to tight restrictions from neighboring nations and financial restraints. Most of the over 1.6 million Christians estimated to live in Syria remain there, persevering. Churches are being intentional in this time of crisis by caring for the hurt, helping refugees, and visiting people in their homes.

Pray for nonbelievers who are placing their ultimate hope in something less than God to see the joy of true hope in the Lord, by God’s grace, through the faithful witness of the local church. Pray for them to humbly turn from their sin and themselves and trust in Christ for salvation.

UPDATE ON RIMSHA MASIH

Last week we shared the story of Rimsha Masih of Pakistan. According to the New York Times, the young girl who was imprisoned after being accused of blasphemy was granted bail today. The girl, who many believe to be mentally impaired, comes from a family of poor Christian sweepers. With strong voices both for and against her, her trial and its outcome is still uncertain, but her foremost accuser has now also been accused of falsifying the evidence. With tensions high, the Masih family’s safety, especially upon her release, is in question. Please continue to pray for her, her family, and the Christian community that surrounds them in this uncertain time.
