| SECRET CHURCH #10 // A PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE Posted: 02 May 2011 11:00 AM PDT Now that you have had the chance to rest and recoup from a night of Secret Church let’s begin to debrief. How do you feel God moving you in light of the truth shared? We have asked Mark Marshall, Pastor of ClearView Baptist Church in Franklin, TN to summarize Secret Church. Mark holds a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas and a bachelor of science degree from Georgia State University in Atlanta. After pastoring for twelve years Mark served ten years in a national role training pastors and leading a team of 100+ employees at LifeWay where he was the Director of Leadership Training and Enrichment Events. Mark returned to the local church on May 1, 2007 as Senior Pastor of ClearView Baptist Church. Mark is married to the former Leigh Ann. They have two daughters, Tiffany and Brittany. You can follow Mark’s blog HERE. Mark is also on Twitter HERE. -------- There is an expectation in the air as people are arriving for Secret Church. Preparations have been made. Final technology tests have been run. A countdown is running on the screens. There is a buzz in the room as several hundred will gather in the church I pastor for six hours of Bible Study and remembering brothers and sisters in Christ around the world who are persecuted for their faith. The teacher is Dr. David Platt (author of Radical and Radical Together). As one who podcasts David's messages each week, I am excited that many in my flock will be exposed to his gift of teaching for the first time. But I am most excited for the content we will be studying. I have listened to previous Secret Church sessions online. I know this is going to be rich, thick theology we will be exploring. I know it will stretch minds and hearts. I know God will be glorified as we walk through this together. It's almost time to start. People are marking off space for what promises to be an exciting night. The schedule in the front of our 150 page Study Guide tells us we will start with 20 minutes of worship music. I can't think of a better way to spend Good Friday evening. Let's do this! Why do you believe approximately 50,000 people would plan to spend 6 hours on a Friday evening studying the Bible? Why would there be an excitement in the air like this? Is the heart to study God's Word like this a sign of an appetite not being met or a sign it is being met which creates a hunger for more? -------- To subscribe to the Secret Church Blog click HERE |
