| Posted: 13 Mar 2013 08:00 AM PDT Throughout the month of March, we will be posting daily about Chinese Muslims, the prayer focus for our upcoming Secret Church gathering. We invite you to learn about Chinese Muslims and pray with us for God's glory to be made known among them. If you would like to read other posts in this blog series, you can find them here. "What's this recording being played?" I asked the young shopkeeper. "It's the Qur'an being read aloud," he replied. I glanced around the store at a variety of Islamic literature, then asked him a few more questions. Oscar has a university degree but has chosen to devote his life to the mosque and the Hui community, rather than pursuing a career in his profession. He runs the Islamic resource center for his local mosque and teaches Arabic in his spare time, though he is not a formal Islamic teacher. Inside his store, the Qur'an is read continuously. In this particular city that has a high percentage of Chinese Muslims, few men Oscar's age are very religious. Most do not attend prayers daily, but Oscar is different. He is seeking God. When my family moved to this small city, I began visiting Oscar's shop, and over several months we developed a friendship. He learned early on that we were followers of Jesus, and he asked if I had a copy of the Bible that he could read. He had come across one earlier, but now he wanted to know more about the God of the Bible. I gladly gave him a copy, and he eagerly began reading it. As time went by, Oscar became more and more careful about who saw him reading or carrying the Bible. His family noticed that I visited often, and his father began stationing himself by his son whenever I dropped by for a chat or to buy something. Still, Oscar continued to read. He admired the life of Jesus that he read about in the Bible, he said. And he admired the works of service followers of Jesus were doing in his community. Then, during Ramadan, Oscar returned the Bible, saying he had completely read it. PLEASE PRAY
