Secret Church

A Better Future

Posted: 18 Mar 2013 07:00 AM PDT

Throughout the month of March, we will be posting daily about Chinese Muslims, the prayer focus for our upcoming Secret Church gathering. We invite you to learn about Chinese Muslims and pray with us for God's glory to be made known among them. If you would like to read other posts in this blog series, you can find them here.

In Mae's family, education looks different. Her parents were hoping for someone with power to get her into a better middle school, but they have accepted the school she currently attends. Though her class standing is just average, they don't criticize her too much. She scores well in English class, so she just needs some summer classes to boost her math scores and prepare her for next semester. And unlike most students her age, Mae even sleeps in or watches some TV on the weekend.

But for the average Hui student in China, the reality is far more harsh. Parent-teacher meetings publicize the class standing of every student. Substandard performance brings shame on the entire family. Weak areas require night classes, weekend classes and summer classes to improve scores. Under pressure from their families, the students must perform to earn a spot in a good school and a chance at a better future.

For many Hui, and for many Chinese in general, education—not Christ—is the means to fulfilled hope for the future.

PLEASE PRAY

  • Pray that Hui families will realize that their only hope for a better future is Jesus. May they all have an opportunity to hear the Gospel.
  • Pray that followers of Jesus will not simply sympathize with Hui families but intentionally proclaim the Gospel and shine brightly for Christ.
