Day 9: Hunger

Posted: 06 Mar 2012 10:00 PM PST

During this Secret Church on Good Friday, April 6, we are focusing our prayer time on the people of the Horn of Africa. Throughout the weeks leading up to Secret Church we will post information and prayer requests on this blog. We invite you to join us in learning about and praying for the people of the Horn.

Many people in the Horn of Africa live with food insecurity. Poverty, famine, personal crisis, or a combination of these things cause hunger or malnutrition. Many aid organizations are responding to these needs through a combination of efforts—handing out food and medication to those with urgent needs and helping others with sustainable solutions like small business or agricultural development.

Connections

  • Every time you eat a snack or meal today thank the Father for his provision and pray for people suffering in the Horn of Africa.
  • Give up food for a day, and use your time to remember those who are desperately in need of food.
  • Cook your dinner from scratch—no Bisquick, sauce packets, or a microwave. During the extra time you are buying, chopping, stirring, and waiting, pray for the people of the Horn.
  • Squeeze your child's (or a friend's child's) chubby cheeks, and pray for the little ones in the Horn who are most vulnerable to malnutrition.

Ways to Pray

  • Ask the Father to show mercy to those in dire need and to provide for their immediate physical needs.
  • Pray for those who are hungry to be satisfied with the Bread of Life.
  • Pray also that aid workers in the Horn of Africa will have wisdom and compassion from the Father when responding to the never-ending needs.
  • Ask that aid workers who are also Christ-followers will share the truth of the gospel as they meet physical needs.
