Posted: 18 Mar 2012 11:00 PM PDT

During this Secret Church on Good Friday, April 6, we are focusing our prayer time on the people of the Horn of Africa. Throughout the weeks leading up to Secret Church we will post information and prayer requests on this blog. We invite you to join us in learning about and praying for the people of the Horn.

Somalia is a country that has experienced great suffering throughout its history. The effects of its most recent civil war in 1991 can still be felt as clans continue to fight. However, the greatest battle that currently wages is between the Transitional Federal Government and the Islamic extremist group Al-Shabab. Somalia is also the way by which Islam first entered the Horn of Africa. The presence of a growing Muslim population in the region brought influence so great that Somalis often feel closer ties to their Middle Eastern neighbors than they do other countries in their own continent. Almost universally, Somalis profess unwavering commitment to Islam.

Ways to Pray

  • Pray for peace and stability for the nation of Somalia. Pray that decades of war and destruction will come to an end so the people of Somalia will know true and lasting peace.
  • Pray for God to open the hearts of Somalis to the truth of the Gospel. Pray that clans and individuals who are at war will be united by the love of Christ.
  • Pray for God to provide relief from the drought and famine the Somalis are experiencing. Pray for Somalis to know the true Bread of Life and have their every need met in Him.
