Day 20: Chaos Posted: 19 Mar 2012 11:00 PM PDT During this Secret Church on Good Friday, April 6, we are focusing our prayer time on the people of the Horn of Africa. Throughout the weeks leading up to Secret Church we will post information and prayer requests on this blog. We invite you to join us in learning about and praying for the people of the Horn. Photo Courtesy of Steve Evans Due to years of war and neglect, the economic, social and physical health of Somalia is terrible. More than 750,000 people are internally displaced, and 500,000 have died as a result of the fighting. Warfare, upheaval, and a particularly strict form of Islam make outside assistance very difficult to give. Chaos has created a haven for smugglers, bandits, pirates and terrorists, only fueling the problems. Such danger and an oppressive interpretation of Islam also prevent aid and workers from assisting anyone. Structures of sin allow great wrongs to persist, and women and children in particular are at risk. The threats of physical assault, abandonment, and human trafficking are a reality for many. Additionally, Somalia has the lowest health budget of any nation, and the highest infant mortality rate—nearly 12% of all children die as infants. Droughts and warfare-induced famines render huge numbers dependent on food aid. Ways to Pray Pray for order and stability. Pray that the people of Somalia would trust in the Prince of Peace in spite of the chaos and turmoil all around them. Pray for Somalis to acknowledge and repent of the sin in their lives. Pray for wise administration of aid. Pray for protection and effective ministry for aid workers. Counting Down to Secret Church Posted: 19 Mar 2012 11:42 AM PDT Secret Church is just three weeks away and the countdown is on! Before this week gets too busy, we wanted to let you know a couple of things. If you haven’t signed up for the simulcast yet, there’s still time! This is the last week to register and receive the study guides as part of the simulcast package. The study guide is over 220 pages long—yes, you read that correctly—so it’s really more like a small book! Register by Monday, March 26 and LifeWay will ship them directly to you. After March 26, the study guide will only be available in PDF format. All the details about hosting can be found on the simulcast site. If you’re already registered to host the simulcast, go ahead and activate your account. There’s a lot of great information that will hopefully make hosting easier for you. Be sure to check out the promotional materials as well. A new video was added last week and another one will be added this week. If we can help you with anything else, just let us know!
