| North Korea’s Dangerous Posture Toward Believers Posted: 08 May 2014 11:00 PM PDT According to reports from late last week, North Korea has responded to the UN Human Rights Council, which had accused the country of gross human rights abuses. Their response? In part, to blame Christians who lived on the NK border in northeastern China. To be exact, here is what the North Korean delegation said: “There are in the northeastern area of China so-called churches and priests exclusively engaged in hostile acts against the DPRK. They indoctrinate the illegal border crossers with anti-DPRK ideology and send them back to the DPRK with assignments of subversion, destruction, human trafficking and even terrorist acts.” On his blog, Rev. Eric Foley, CEO of Seoul USA, has said that this is of immense importance for North Korean Christians. In fact, according to him, “The significance of North Korea’s comments cannot be overstated.” Why? He continued, “North Korea is choosing to publicly blame Christian missionaries for its human rights problems and internal difficulties.” The implications of North Korea’s posture toward believers reach beyond North Korea, though. North Korean Christians who are living in China (or trying to escape through China) are likely to suffer a crack-down from Chinese authorities. Foley said: From a field standpoint, the situation facing North Korean work in Northeast China is tight and getting tighter. Don't expect China to do nothing. If North Korea is pointing to missionaries operating in China as a source of potential North Korean instability, and if it is alleging that China is the host, then missionaries can expect an increasing crackdown on churches and discipleship bases reaching North Koreans. From a public perception standpoint, expect that North Korea will more and more seek sympathy and support from the general global public by striking an anti-Christian chord. Please continue to watch and pray as this dark corner of the world attempts to shut out light even more. HT: Seoul USA |

| Posted: 08 May 2014 10:01 PM PDT The story from Acts 8 of Phillip and the Ethiopian eunuch is dear to our hearts. As we look back on the way we met Emre and Meltem, we certainly believe that God sent us all the way to Turkey for them. They, like the Ethiopian eunuch who lived two centuries before them, were reading without understanding and needed someone to explain. When we opened up the word with them to explain, the Spirit called them to salvation. It's been nearly a year and a half since Emre and Meltem professed faith in Christ, and although there have been ups and downs, struggles and trials, we rejoice in how the Father has already matured their faith and helped them grow in obedience. As summer was upon us and the water around us began to get warmer, we began to discuss baptism in depth with them. We read about what it symbolizes. We talked about it as a step of obedience. We discussed the seriousness of what we're saying to people when we are baptized. Emre looked at us and said, "This is so strange that we're talking about this now. Just this week I've been thinking a lot about it." … READ MORE |
